Having learned yesterday that Radio Shack had been delisted from the New York Stock Exchange, many fond memories resurfaced. When I was a kid, there was no place more exciting to go and visit than a Radio Shack. It was truly a cutting edge institution with every high-tech gizmo and gadget a youngster could want. Today, she inches her way closer to going the way of the buggy whip and whale oil lamp.
Latest rumors have it that Amazon may purchase the moribund retailer. Perhaps some twenty-first century innovation may be able to resuscitate the brand, but I can’t see any major retailer being able to breathe new life into such a dying business model.
Not much else to say other than thanks for the memories and inspiration. I’m sure that I’m not alone in expressing my sincerest appreciation.
